The first panel bearing 65 colorful ceramic tiles has been installed in the pedestrian walkway connecting N. Union Avenue to Shopper Parking Lot 7 on Miln Street. The tiles, made from art submitted by residents, businesses, civic organizations and sports teams in Cranford, is an ongoing public art project managed by the Township’s Office of Business & Economic Development. Additional panels will be installed in this walkway and other public pedestrian walkways throughout the downtown. The tile display is a permanent public art project and each panel contains 65 tiles. The first panel includes artwork from children, pictures of family homes and storefronts, family pets, sports teams and scout troops.
“The tile panels add some color and whimsy to the walkways and also tell a story about Cranford and sense of community,” said Downtown Director Kathleen Miller Prunty.
Residents, business owners and community organizations are invited to be part of future art panels. Tiles are $25. Information and application is on the downtown website, www.cranford.com/downtown. Go to “What’s New Downtown” and click on Tile Application.
